Verizon and NASA are planning to use cell towers for tracking drones

Drones at lower altitudes may soon be tracked via cellular towers, if Verizon and NASA have a say in the matter. Documents obtained by The Guardian show a $500,000 deal between the carrier and NASA which will “jointly explore if cell towers and communications could possibly support Unmannned Aerial Systems (UAS) Traffic Management (UTM) for communications and surveillance of UAS at low altitudes.” NASA will begin testing an air traffic control system for drones this summer, which will monit
